Therapeutic Nervous System Reset

A Somatic Partner for Your Counseling Clients

A gentle, hands-on nervous system treatment that complements trauma, anxiety, and stress-focused counseling by helping the body do what the mind is working so hard to do: feel safe again.

A Little About Susan

I’m Susan Bell, LMT, a licensed massage therapistfor over 12 years. Located in Plano, TX, specializing in vagus nerve reset, cranial work, and stress-pattern release.as well as advanced medical massage modalities.

My background includes years of pain relief and therapeutic bodywork, and a growing focus on how trauma, stress, and nervous system dysregulation show up in the body.

My goal is to be a reliable somatic support to the counseling work you’re already doing—never to replace it.

My Therapeutic Nervous System Reset sessions are designed specifically to:

  • Help downshift chronic fight-or-flight and freeze states
  • Reduce nervous-system driven symptoms like muscle tension, “buzzing” anxiety, shallow breathing, and shut-down
  • Support trauma processing by giving the body a felt sense of safety and grounding

Compliments Your Counseling Services

I’m providing hands-on regulation work that supports the counseling you’re already doing.

How This Supports Your Clinical Work

You already know: when the nervous system is stuck “on,” clients can:

  • Intellectually understand the work
  • But struggle to feel calm, safe, or connected in their bodies
  • Get flooded in session and then numb out between sessions
  • Have trouble sleeping, digesting, or “turning off” at night

Therapeutic Nervous System Reset can help by:

  • Encouraging parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) dominance
  • Giving clients a repeatable somatic experience of safety
  • Making it easier for them to access insight, memory, and emotional processing without overwhelm
  • Offering a concrete, trackable way to address ongoing dysregulation between counseling sessions

Most counselors use this service for clients who are:

  • Dealing with PTSD, chronic stress, anxiety, or burnout
  • Highly somatic in their distress (chest tightness, GI issues, chronic pain tied to stress)
  • “Stuck” despite good insight and regular therapy
  • Caregivers or helpers who are emotionally exhausted

What Happens in a Session?

Session length: 60 minutes

Name: Therapeutic Nervous System Reset

Location: In-person at BodyWorks Therapy & Massage in Plano, TX

1. Brief Check-In (5–10 minutes)

We start with a short, structured verbal check-in:

  • Current stress load and symptoms
  • Sleep quality & energy levels
  • Any recent triggers, medical changes, or new concerns

This helps us track patterns over time and tailor the work to the client’s nervous system that day.

2. Hands-On Nervous System Reset (Approx. 40–45 minutes)

The table work typically includes:

  • Vagus Nerve Reset & Coherence Work
Gentle contact at key access points (ears, neck and head) to support slower breathing, softening in the jaw, and a felt sense of safety. Dolphin Neurostim is used to reset the Vagus Nerve to 'Rest and Digest'.

  • Cranial & CNS Stress Relief Points
Very light holds around the occiput, sacrum, and cranial base to encourage release in the central nervous system and deep relaxation.

  • Optional Neck, Head, and Shoulder Work
Light to moderate therapeutic massage for clients who carry stress “in their neck and shoulders,” kept within nervous-system friendly limits (this is not a deep tissue session).

All work is done fully clothed or draped to massage standards, depending on the client’s comfort and intake.

3. Integration & Exit (5–10 minutes)

We end with:

  • A brief post-session check-in (changes in breathing, tension, pain, and emotional state)
  • One or two simple at-home regulation practices (breath, gentle movements, or positioning, meditation suggestions) to extend the benefits
  • If requested, a quick, high-level note that can be shared with their counselor (with written client consent)

Section: Clinical Feel & Tracking Progress

Although this is a bodywork service, I structure it so it feels clinical, trackable, and repeatable for you and your clients.

We can track things like:

  • Baseline & post-session stress levels (0–10 scale)
  • Sleep quality (waking at night, trouble falling asleep, waking rested)
  • Somatic symptoms (headaches, jaw tension, chest pressure, GI tension, etc.)
  • Heart-coherence & “settling” speed – how quickly the client’s body drops into a calmer state during the session

This information can be shared back to you (with the client’s permission) so you have another lens on their regulation over time.

Section: Who Is (and Isn’t) a Good Fit?

Good fit clients:

  • In active counseling for trauma, grief, burnout, anxiety, or chronic stress
  • Whose bodies feel constantly “on alert,” hypervigilant, or shut down
  • Who are open to gentle touch and somatic work
  • Who want a non-invasive, supportive approach to help their system calm down

Not a great fit:

  • Clients with untreated psychosis or active mania
  • Clients who are not medically cleared for light bodywork or touch
  • Individuals who are currently unsafe or in active crisis (they need emergency or higher-level care first)

If you’re unsure whether a client is appropriate, you’re welcome to reach out and consult with me first.

Section: How Referral & Communication Works

I keep the process simple and respectful of your clinical boundaries.

Option 1: You Refer, Client Books

  1. You share this page and my contact/booking info.
  2. Client books directly and completes my intake form.
  3. With client consent, I can send you a brief summary after:
    • The initial session
    • Every 3–6 sessions (or as requested)

Option 2: Warm Handoff

For higher-need clients:

  1. We set up a quick 5–10 minute phone or Zoom consult (no charge)
  2. You share your goals for the client’s nervous system support
  3. We decide together what cadence makes sense (e.g., 3–6 sessions over 6–8 weeks)

Communication Philosophy

  • I stay in my scope as an LMT and somatic nervous system practitioner.
  • I don’t interpret or comment on your counseling work.
  • I provide body-based observations and progress notes only when appropriate and with your client’s written consent.

Section: Suggested Frequency & Packages

Most counseling clients benefit from:

  • Initial Phase: 3–6 weekly sessions to help shift the baseline
  • Maintenance Phase: Monthly, Bi-Monthly or as-needed sessions to reinforce regulation and prevent burnout
